There has been a considerable increase in the number of driver and front seat passengers killed or seriously injured each year. A large number of them do not wear seat-belts. Therefore, it’s high time that wearing seat-belts should be mandatory.
In my opinion, fastening seat-belts is absolutely essential. In the first place, it may reduce the risk of injury in a collision by as much as 50%. Seat-belts help keep you in control of the car if you have to swerve, brake abruptly or if you are struck by another vehicle. Added to this, with a seat-belt, both driver and passengers can feel safer when the car is in motion. Lastly, if you are a parent, wearing your seat-belt sets a good example to your children or younger motorist in your home. Children learn many of their behaviours by example. When you make a habit of putting your seat-belt on, they are likely to do the same.
Opponents, however, protest that it is incredibly uncomfortable to use seat-belts. It prevents them from doing other activities. To my mind, nothing is more important than people’s health and lives so the benefits of seat-belts to our safety can’t be denied.
To sum up, people should be fully aware of the importance of wearing seat-belt when driving their car.
